Mike knows his way, around the place he is the king of quotidian things if there's a road, well then there's a road and any damn thing, can come banging in 10,000 people are really too much 10,000 miles jagged and rough my head's on the pillow, beggaring sleep my faith with you darlin is one I can keep returning to I know my way, back from this place holding the silence of every day I climbed the hill, it was a ball the wind was a mess, but I made the call the shadows of clouds, just running wild and under that cross, we talked for awhile millions of people just getting by oceans are rising the forests too dry we may not have a whole lotta time so let's take a shot darlin let's make a try for something

Black Hole 04:27
so you go to bed thinking maybe, the world will end and you try to sleep praying normal, will come again and it's hard to know and it's harder, not to know how to keep them safe from this big black hole, that's coming that's coming hear them racing in the streets at night as though the world shut down for them a little distance and a lot of speed but you have to go home eventually and I have to say things were crazy, even before it was a wild ride a fevered, selfish dream something had to give something, had to break under all that weight under all that stupid waste all that stupid waste now the sky is clear of planes in flight and the world is eerie quiet stars are happy and self satisfied and the earth just takes a breath every day I see another thing in the news that makes me cry all this courage and self sacrifice in the face of threats and lies if we put our trust in charlatans then we get what we deserve if we turn our backs on harder truths then we're gonna get worst of it
3.
Blanket 02:35
You seem to have the requisite nametag that launches the next love dollar the laminated requisite nametag would you like still or sparkling water? congratulations, congratulations congratulations, congratulations our first course is a spherical ball roughly 3 millimeters small a pink mysterious paste awaits you on the inside and while you're enjoying that feel free to look out the windows at our subtly engineered landscape it always makes me hungry for home more of home spread like a blanket warm inside spread like a blanket county wide
4.
Lost 03:21
Ouch, my heart beached like a whale on the shores of your empire when I start staggering 'round 'neath the weight of my ego smack me right into the face of the wind off the lake and drop me down into the woods wearing nothing but hubris don't, be shy about telling me get out go get lost I think I'm lost again forgot why I came things came untwined again and it's just the same when things get hard again I go away look, they are searching the shores of the lake by flashlight wrapped, by night I find myself thinking of things that I should not like, the list of all the things that I'll never accomplish or the past swept clean as the face of the lake before sunrise if, I die they might never know and that might be ok I want to be lost again forget my name I want to be fine again and take my place among the trees and stars and all that space
5.
Zuider Zee 06:41
Flake white and Prussian blue I still know their names white caps on the channel feel like I slept all day again clouds building up above the hills to the south but out here in the desert another North Sea day slips away all the dust in my mouth all the sun in my eyes I put my brushes away let someone else paint the mist and decay of the Zuider Zee I'm all alone now but it's ok I'm all alone now I put my brushes away it seems I have to hurry every boat has a name white hull cuts the water the sweet taste of escape On the Zuider Zee
6.
Somewhere 02:30
what fell out of your mouth? what have you done to me? your laugh is hanging in my head the light is hanging in the trees and shining on your face which is smiling at me this is not figured out I know this is not a simple thing but I don't really care what they say I don't really care I don't really care what they do anymore because you and I are a fact irrefutable and sweet and when this all settles out you're coming home with me and what a home that will be somewhere
7.
These Days 05:16
if I could fly to your side tonight I would, I would when I wake up with my head in a vice something there, has to give I thank the gods for my orange bike it gets me out, in the world it's so hard just to keep going these days, these days direction, just seems to fade away these days, these days time, just takes its own sweet time these days, these days ‘cause we’re all here, hanging on the line and it’s not gonna change so holding on is the only thing we can do these days, these days lie down and close your eyes remember how it smelled when the rain at long last fell and the desert breathed a sigh of relief so sweet talk to me gently of these things and I'll remember what you said and I will think about it and it may not be so bad anymore
8.
Little Radio 04:37
god I miss you take a breath you know I miss you and it's just a fact I smelled a little whiff of fall in the air yesterday I felt the air between us shift and sway it's a long distance love affair but it's ok so tell me everything that happened today tell me what you did and what you said and where was that goofy cat when this was all going on? and how are you feeling and will you get more rain? wish I could kiss you today but I can't kiss you when you're five hundred miles away we talk into the tiny box till we're just too tired then you go lie down in your bed I lie down in mine another morning, you're not here a lovely morning, and I'm not there so hold me in your head as you walk through the day juggling legalities and emotional breaks the phone is a curse the phone is the hand of grace a little radio that plays your voice I want to leave it on all night long
9.
out on the curb just messing around you better get serious there's some things we've gotta get done and back home god knows what you tell your mama get on the phone your skills getting better and better but it starts with a lie it starts with a lie it starts wtih a lie and it's all downhill from there if nobody saw and nothing was there if nobody said... under the lights feel so invincible get so delirious with the ways it comes undone pearls before swine shines through in every syllable up in the sky keep getting higher and higher but it starts with a lie it starts with a lie it starts with a lie and it's all downhill from there
10.
so here comes Christmas like a runaway train so lie down in the dust and pray for rain 'cause the sky is broken we pissed it away and California's burning for the holidays but you're still around and very much so and for that lovely miracle I am grateful I am grateful oh what you said down by the park oh what you said as I walked to my truck it sticks to me
11.
Downstream 04:43
I woke up, on the wrong side of the past and it kicked me, right out of bed I hit my head, on the failures and the past gave them, everything they needed to make a case solid, airtight so just just give up, why even, keep trying? take your head, out of the vice there's no going back there's only, forward it's life on ice, just to wallow just go sleep get up tomorrow I saw the sun coming up its blooming face upon the grass saw the trees leaning in hoping for a little action and the hills were rolling 'round on their bellies for a laugh silver river takes its cue and it all begins to dance and you're ok, you just don't know it just go to sleep and sleep on it every day, is full of hours and every hour chock full of minutes in which it all, could change completely just give in and let it take you, downstream downstream
12.
Pour Me 05:03
do what you want you can take it all back anytime the mess that we made is the gift that you gave to the world they called it a country but nowadays that's just talking talking is something but doing this amounts to nothing pour me a drink watch some TV under that stream there's a version of me sleeping well I'm here on the trail but I live on that line in the sky taking me home with you would be great if you have the room I won't take up space I'll just sit here and wait for your call and pour you a drink and rub your feet I'll pour you a drink and one for poor me I'll cut you a slab of the sunlight that falls on the floor I'll sing you a song 'bout a lonely spherical moon I'll row while you doze in the bow watching the sky I'll tune in your favorite station and watch while you cry just do what you want
13.
it's finally quiet in this town it seem all the idiots are somewhere fast asleep come on out to my place for awhile from here, you can hardly hear the trucks dropping gears on the hill and the smell is not that bad there's some stars in the yard I know that the world is on fire I know I should care but tonight, I just don't c'mon over here, help me forget c'mon over here, we'll make some regrets when I'm the selfish bastard in your arms I'm the selfish bastard hiding out in your charms of all of the bastards I'm the luckiest by far oh I'm the selfish bastard in your arms in your arms walk outside with me under the sky it's warm out tonight and the moon's getting ready to shine the tide is out in the sea of grass the secrets of the continent are lapping at our feet the quiet waves, are rolling in I'm washed up on your lips outside the din, we hold on and become whole again when I'm the selfish bastard in your arms I'm the selfish bastard hiding out in your charms of all of the bastards I'm the luckiest by far oh I'm the selfish bastard in your arms in your arms
14.
Ancient Sea 04:42
under an ancient sea we need to see your pony we go to see your pony and he's fine under an ancient sea where people built their houses with rocks and mud and sticks and the straightest trees under and ancient sea now there's so many beige/pink houses full of cats and shoes and big TVs under and ancient sea I pick up a shiny rock pick up a shiny rock I pick up a shiny rock and put it in my pocket where old volcanoes sleep I wander on their shoulders I send you silly pictures on the phone under and ancient sea semi trucks are idling sleeping at the rest stop in the dark I call you when I'm close and then you talk me home under and ancient sea I pick up a lot of rocks I pick up a lot of rocks I pick up a lot of rocks and put 'em in my pockets

about

During this Covid year we couldn't play music together, so the original introverts (Hoge Day and Mark Taylor) turned to our computers. Mark completed an experimental album called Whale of Noise, (see the recommended section) and I turned my attention to finally recording some of the songs that have piled up since our last album came out. For this project I used the recording software Reason on my laptop, along with guitars, some live percussion and a little violin thanks to my niece Emily. It was cool to expand my sonic vocabulary a bit with different synth instruments, and the record has a quieter, more internal feel overall. Hope you like it.

Daniel Behrend joined them on drums, and, for the album, Speak, they were joined by bassist Blair Forward to help create their driving, signature sound.
